Mods are one of the main reasons people install ReSkate. The ReSkate community on Thunderstore had 3,633 packages when we checked on Oct 17, 2026: custom maps, clothing and board graphics, HUDs, music and more.
How to install ReSkate mods
From the launcher (easiest)
- Open
ReSkateLauncher.exeand go to the MODS page. - Browse Thunderstore from inside the launcher and install the mods you want. A mod pack brings the mods it depends on with it.
- Press PLAY. Mods are merged into the game at launch.
By hand
Drag a mod’s .zip or folder onto the launcher window, or put the mod folder into Mods\ next to Skate.exe in your ReSkate folder. The load order is kept in Mods\mods.json.
Turning mods on and off in game
Press Insert and open the MODS tab of the ReSkate menu. You can switch mods on and off and apply the change; most changes apply without restarting the game.
Mod profiles
On the launcher’s MODS page, PROFILES saves which mods are on, and in what order, under a name. Loading a profile switches to it and downloads any mods you are missing. You can share a profile with COPY CODE or SAVE FILE, and load one with IMPORT CODE or IMPORT FILE. The codes and .r2z files are the same format r2modman uses.

Many of the most downloaded maps recreate parks from older Skate games or from Skater XL. To skate a custom map with others, everyone needs it; ReSkate can download a missing Thunderstore map for you when you join a server, after you confirm.

Things to know
- Only install mods you trust. Mods change game data. Custom Lua scripts are switched off in current ReSkate versions, so mods cannot run their own scripts.
- Mods are tied to the game build. ReSkate checks each mod against the build it was made for. Outdated mods, or mods that cannot be merged cleanly, are left out with a message naming them; the rest still load.
- Too many mods can hit the texture limit. Since 2.0.7 you get a warning at 90% of the streamed texture limit. If you see it, uninstall some mods.
- Songs can get their own playlist. A music mod can include a
reskate-music.jsonfile to add a playlist to the game’s music screen.

Why is a mod not loading?

Do other players need my mods?
For custom maps on a server, yes. If the map is on Thunderstore, ReSkate offers to download it for you when you join. Cosmetic mods are not needed to join, but other players generally need the same mod to see your custom items.
Do ReSkate mod profiles work with r2modman?
Yes. Profile codes and .r2z files use r2modman's format, so the two mod managers can read each other's profiles.
