There is one official place to download ReSkate: the Releases page of the Dingo-Shenanigans/ReSkate repository on GitHub. Other sites that offer a “ReSkate download” are not run by the project. You also need your own copy of skate. on Steam; ReSkate does not include the game.
Before you start
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC (64-bit). Linux works through Proton, see below.
- skate. in your Steam library, on an account you can sign in to.
- About 14 GB of free disk space.
- A few minutes for the first download of the game files.
Install ReSkate on Windows
- Download the latest release. Open Releases, find the newest release that is not marked “Pre-release”, and under Assets download
ReSkate-<version>.zip(for exampleReSkate-2.0.7.zip). Do not pick Source code (zip): that is the source code, not the program. - Make a new, empty folder, for example
C:\Games\ReSkate. Do not use Steam’s own skate. folder. ReSkate keeps a separate copy of the game there, so a Steam update cannot break it. - Extract
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dllfrom the zip into that folder. Both files must sit next to each other. - Run
ReSkateLauncher.exe. It first checks for ReSkate updates, then installs the supported build of skate. into the same folder. - Sign in to Steam when asked, with the account that owns skate. You can scan a QR code with the Steam app, or use your username, password and Steam Guard.
- Wait for the game download (about 14 GB). On later runs the launcher only checks the files and downloads what is missing.
- Press PLAY. In game, press Insert to open the ReSkate menu.
Always start the game from ReSkateLauncher.exe
Pressing Play on skate. in your Steam library starts the normal game without ReSkate, so the ReSkate menu and offline mode will not be there. Make a desktop shortcut to ReSkateLauncher.exe instead.
Windows SmartScreen or your antivirus may warn about the launcher the first time. That is common for game mod loaders; read is ReSkate safe? before deciding.
Install ReSkate on Linux (Proton)
The README documents a Proton setup that launches ReSkate from skate.’s own Steam entry:
- Install skate. with Steam.
- Put
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dllin a new, empty folder, for example~/Games/ReSkate(not Steam’s skate. folder). - In Steam, open skate. → Properties → Launch Options and paste the command from the README’s Linux section, with the path changed to your own folder.
- Press Play on skate. in your Steam library. The first time, the launcher installs its own copy of the game into your folder.
Why the launch option: Steam normally starts EA’s anti-cheat launcher, which refuses to run under Wine or Proton. The launch option swaps it for ReSkate’s launcher, which then starts the game. Copy the exact command from the README rather than from a video, because it has changed between versions.
The README notes that this folder-of-its-own setup is new and not yet tested on Proton, and that Steam Deck should work the same way but is untested. One known issue: after loading a custom map, joining a server on a different map can leave a black screen; load the server’s map first.

Skate.exe here means the copy of the game the launcher installed in your ReSkate folder.

Both the menu and console keys can be changed in the launcher’s Settings, which helps on compact keyboards without an Insert key.

Which file do I download?
The zip named ReSkate-<version>.zip under Assets on the latest release. The two files you need inside it, ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll, are also attached to each release on their own. Source code (zip) is the source code, not the program.
Do I put ReSkate in my Steam skate. folder?
No. Current versions want a new, empty folder of their own. The launcher installs its own copy of the supported game build there, so Steam updating skate. cannot break ReSkate. Newer launchers refuse to run from Steam's folder.
How much disk space does ReSkate need?
About 14 GB of free space for the copy of the game the launcher downloads.
Why does the launcher ask for my Steam login?
