Call of Duty in Your Browser: What Still Works (Oct 2026)

Black Ops Zombies, Kino der Toten, MW2 and other Call of Duty browser ports: which still work after Activision's October 2026 takedowns, plus the native PC recomps.

Short answerUpdated

We track 8 Call of Duty ports. 1 plays in a browser today with no game files of your own, 2 more work with files from a copy you own, and 5 are offline or taken down. Statuses are checked daily; we link only each project's own site.

Call of Duty had a strange October in browsers. Fans used AI coding tools and reverse-engineered engines to put Black Ops Zombies, classic Zombies maps and Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer in a browser tab, the clips went viral, and Activision answered with DMCA notices: first on 10 October 2026 against Luckey Faraday’s Three.js remakes, then on 19 October against the vel.gg Black Ops Zombies address. This page keeps one list of what still works, updated by our daily checks.

What still works

  • BO1 Zombies on vel.gg is the one free browser version still running. It loads each map’s data from the site, so you need no game files, and unlike the remakes it runs a reimplementation of the Black Ops engine.
  • On PC, Call of Duty 3 and the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 are native recompilations of the console games. They are unrelated to the browser takedowns and need your own disc.

What was taken down

Copies of these games keep appearing on other sites and in GitHub repositories, often with the game data included. We don’t link them: they are not run by the people who made the ports, and several of the old addresses now redirect to unrelated pages. The takedown tracker lists every DMCA action against fan ports we know of, with dates and sources.

FAQ

Can you still play Black Ops Zombies in a browser?

Yes, for now. The vel.gg port of Black Ops 1 Zombies still loads from the vel.gg front page with all ten maps, solo or in an online lobby. Its old address, vel.gg/bo1z, has shown "Unavailable for legal reasons" since 19 October 2026 after a DMCA notice from Activision, so old bookmarks no longer work.

Why did Kino der Toten, Moon and the other Call of Duty browser games disappear?

Activision sent DMCA notices. Luckey Faraday's Three.js remakes of Kino der Toten, Moon, Cheese Cube and the Black Ops II map Hijacked went offline on 10 October 2026, and the OVZ / Contemporary Conflict Modern Warfare 2 browser shooter has shown a takedown notice since 17 October. Their old pages.dev addresses now redirect to unrelated sites, so do not open them.

Is any of this official?

No. Every project on this page is an unofficial fan project, not a release by Activision, Treyarch or Infinity Ward. We link only to each project's own site and host nothing.

Can I play old Call of Duty games natively on PC?

Two console-only games now have fan PC versions made by static recompilation of the Xbox 360 releases. Call of Duty 3 plays all 15 levels, and the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 runs its campaign and multiplayer with friends. Both need your own copy of the game.
