You need your own copy of Call of Duty 3. This port only runs with files from a copy you own; there is no download or play button here. No copy? These play in your browser right away, no files needed: BO1 Zombies (vel.gg), GTA 3 Online (quenq III Web), The Simpsons: Hit & Run WASM.

What you need

A disc image (or extracted folder) of your own Xbox 360 Call of Duty 3, USA/Europe release, with the disc's own executable (title update 3 is not supported); 64-bit Windows and a Direct3D 11 graphics card.

Short answer (checked 20 October 2026)

Call of Duty 3 now runs natively on PC, unofficially, through CoD3Recomp by FrankHUN, a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 game with no emulator. All fifteen campaign levels play, but it is still a pre-release (latest 0.4.0, 7 October 2026). It runs on Windows and needs a disc image of your own Xbox 360 copy. A second port, Project 1944, adds multiplayer.

Call of Duty 3 (Treyarch, 2006) came out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox and Wii, and never on PC; the project’s status notes say so too. FrankHUN’s CoD3Recomp repository was created on 17 September 2026, with a first build the same day. DSOGaming covered it on 13 October. Project 1944 by zenit2893-cmyk followed with its own build on 25 September.

What it is

  • A static recompilation: XenonRecomp translates all 19,462 functions of the Xbox 360 executable to C++, which is compiled as a native x86-64 Windows program. The fifteen levels’ code is recompiled too.
  • Its own PC renderer: a Direct3D 11 renderer draws the game from its own shaders, translated to HLSL.
  • What’s in the download: the release zip holds CoD3.exe (about 220 MB), its debug file and the FFmpeg libraries for sound. As with other prebuilt static recompilations, that program contains the game’s code translated for PC; the repository holds no game files, and maps, textures, sound and films come from your disc image, which the program installs on first start.
  • No licence is stated in the repository.

Current status

State All fifteen levels play; pre-release, “bugs can and will occur”
Latest build 0.4.0, 7 October 2026 (first build 17 September 2026)
Platforms Windows (x64)
Licence None stated

Features listed in the README and release notes:

  • mouse and keyboard with raw mouse input and rebindable keys, plus controller support;
  • any resolution with a resolution scale, windowed or borderless full screen;
  • MSAA 2x–8x and FXAA, texture filtering, texture quality and a field of view from 65 to 100;
  • an unlocked frame rate in levels (around 100 fps where the console ran at 60, per the README), while menus stay at 60 and films at 30;
  • subtitles, the game’s aim assist, and an optional console for the game’s commands, cheats included.

Version 0.4.0 cut the game’s CPU use from about 5.4 cores to 3.3 and added two experimental speed options, and fixed several picture problems so the image looks closer to the console.

Known problems: the 0.4.0 notes list stretched lines near barbed wire and grass in Saint-Lô and flickering glints in firelight. On 20 October 2026 there were 35 open issues, among them lights showing through walls, lag and high CPU use, a player stuck in the boat section, and a crash with title update 3. Work continues: the last code change was on 20 October. We didn’t play it through ourselves.

What you need

  • A disc image of your own Xbox 360 Call of Duty 3, the USA/Europe release, or a folder you extracted from it. The setup checks that the game’s executable matches the one the build was made from before installing several gigabytes. Title update 3 is not supported. We don’t explain how to obtain or copy game data.
  • 64-bit Windows and a Direct3D 11 graphics card.

How to install

At a high level, from the README and release notes: download the zip from the project’s GitHub Releases page, unpack it into a folder and start CoD3.exe. On first start it asks for your disc image (or an extracted folder) and installs the game from it. To update, unpack the new zip over the old folder; settings, saves and the installed game stay. To build it yourself, put your own default.xex in the folder the README names and run its recompile script.

The other port: Project 1944

Project 1944 by zenit2893-cmyk is a separate recompilation of the same Xbox 360 game, made with the ReXGlue SDK and Xenia-derived kernel and graphics code.

  • Releases: 1.0 on 25 September 2026; the latest, 2.0, adds a recompiled multiplayer with system link for up to 24 players, an internet server list, a dedicated server mode and an always-on project server.
  • Renderer and controls: Direct3D 12, 720p to 1440p with render scale up to 3x, 60 or 120 Hz, mouse and keyboard and controllers, and a launcher with six interface languages.
  • What you need: your own Xbox 360 Call of Duty 3 (USA/Europe) as a disc image, extracted folder or Games on Demand package; the launcher checks it. Windows 10/11 and a Direct3D 12 GPU.
  • How it’s built: the launcher regenerates the game’s code from your copy and compares it with hashes of the ready-made build; if they match, it uses the prebuilt game program and level files that come in the download. The download is large (about 395 MB) because it also carries a compiler toolchain for a full rebuild.
  • Tested scope: the README says the tests covered the first Saint-Lô mission, and that the whole campaign and performance on other PCs have not been verified. We couldn’t confirm how well online play works between different homes.
  • Licence: BSD-3-Clause for the project’s own code.

Which to pick: for the campaign, CoD3Recomp is the better-known and more widely tested port. If you want multiplayer, only Project 1944 has it. We didn’t compare the two ourselves. Its official repository is zenit2893-cmyk/project-1944.

A community fork of CoD3Recomp that claims a full campaign and multiplayer was announced in the project’s issues in October 2026. It is not from FrankHUN and we couldn’t verify it, so we don’t link it.

Is it official, and will it stay up?

  • Both ports are unofficial fan projects, not affiliated with or endorsed by Activision, Treyarch or Microsoft.
  • Get builds only from the official GitHub repositories. Antivirus tools may flag unsigned builds; Project 1944 has its own notes on that.
  • Legality depends on where you live; both projects require files from a copy you own.

Not working?

  • Your disc image is rejected: only the USA/Europe release is supported, without title update 3.
  • Low frame rate or high CPU use: update to 0.4.0, and try the experimental options in the F11 menu, which the author says are faster but less tested.
  • A visual glitch: press F12 where it happens; the program writes a screenshot and a log of the next frames to attach to an issue.

FAQ

Is Call of Duty 3 on PC?

Not officially. Treyarch's 2006 game came out on consoles only. Since September 2026, two unofficial fan projects run the Xbox 360 version natively on Windows - CoD3Recomp by FrankHUN, the one covered by DSOGaming, and Project 1944 by zenit2893-cmyk. Both need your own Xbox 360 disc.

Is CoD3Recomp an emulator?

No. The game's PowerPC code is translated to C++ with XenonRecomp and compiled into a native Windows program, with a Direct3D 11 renderer written for PC. It is the same method Unleashed Recompiled used for Sonic Unleashed.

Can you play the whole campaign?

According to the project, all fifteen levels load and play, with checkpoints, cutscenes and mission transitions. It is still a pre-release and the author warns bugs will occur; open issues report problems such as getting stuck in a boat section. We didn't play it through ourselves.

Which copy of Call of Duty 3 do I need?

A disc image of your own Xbox 360 copy, the USA/Europe release. The setup checks the game's executable before installing. Title update 3 is not supported. We don't explain how to obtain or copy game data.

Does Call of Duty 3 on PC have multiplayer?

Not in CoD3Recomp, which covers the campaign. Project 1944's version 2.0 recompiles the multiplayer too, with system link and an internet server list. We couldn't confirm how well it works between players in different homes; its own notes call that new in this release.

CoD3Recomp or Project 1944?

CoD3Recomp has more users and press coverage and a smaller download. Project 1944 adds multiplayer, a launcher and a Direct3D 12 renderer, but its README says only the first mission was verified in its tests. Both are Windows only.
