Verdict: Azeroth Survivors is a free, unofficial World of Warcraft Classic take on Vampire Survivors, made by a developer called Aethus. It runs in a desktop browser with WebGPU (current Chrome or Edge is the safe choice) and there is also a Windows build. The game’s own data lists nine classes, nine zones and five bosses per zone. Play it only at the official site, wow.aethus.pl: the many look-alike domains are not the author’s. On 2026-10-17 the site was up and served build v0.2.0, dated 2026-10-16.

What it is

Vampire Survivors made a genre out of one idea: you only steer, the hordes keep coming, and every level-up hands you a choice of new powers. Azeroth Survivors puts that loop into the world of classic WoW. You pick a hero of one of the nine classes and one of eight races (each with a small racial bonus), enter a zone such as Elwynn Forest or Duskwood, and survive. Each level deals you three spell cards from your class’s spell pool; you can reroll a hand and, with account perks, banish cards.

Each zone has a story line, regular enemies, elites, guardians in lairs and a schedule of bosses: the zone picker tells you when the next boss arrives, and the last one is the zone’s final boss. Defeating it opens the next zone for that class. After a win you can keep fighting in an endless mode. Bosses drop class gear that stays in your collection for good, and every run earns talent experience for classic-style talent trees, with free respecs.

The client is written in Rust and reaches the browser as WebAssembly. Its data files carry the names of the WoW 1.12 client’s own files, and the options screen says addons made for WoW 1.12 work. That art and lore belong to Blizzard, which is one reason we only link to the game and do not embed it.

How to play

  1. Open wow.aethus.pl in Chrome or Edge on a desktop or laptop.
  2. Wait for the first load: the game client alone is about 13 MB compressed (about 82 MB unpacked), plus game data. Later visits come from the browser cache.
  3. Pick a class, race and zone, name your hero and press Enter.

Controls, as the game’s own hint lists them:

  • WASD, or hold both mouse buttons, to run
  • 1, 2, 3 to take a level-up card, R to reroll
  • Enter to start a run, Escape to pause
  • Gamepad: left stick moves, right stick turns the view, A jumps, bumpers and triggers zoom

Key bindings can be changed in the options. Progress (heroes, unlocked zones, gear, talents) lives in the browser, and the options let you export and import it as a save file.

WebGPU: which browsers work

The page itself says to use a current Chrome, Edge or Safari, and on Linux to turn on chrome://flags/#enable-unsafe-webgpu.

  • Chrome and Edge: WebGPU is on by default in current versions on Windows, macOS and ChromeOS. This is the safest choice, and the one the site names first.
  • Safari: the site names it too. WebGPU is on by default only in recent versions, so update macOS or iOS first.
  • Firefox has been adding WebGPU platform by platform, but the site does not recommend it, and its code mentions Firefox players losing the game to “out of memory” after about five minutes.
  • Phones: the code has touch controls, a fullscreen and landscape lock for phones, and fixes for crashes on some Android graphics chips. We have not tested it on a phone, so treat mobile as experimental.

Classes

Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid: the nine classes of classic WoW. Each has its own pool of about ten to thirteen classic spells. See classes and beginner builds for the pools and some starting ideas.

Not working?

  • Black screen or a WebGPU warning: your browser has no WebGPU, hardware acceleration is off, or the GPU or driver is blocked. Turn on “Use graphics acceleration when available” in chrome://settings/system or edge://settings/system, update the graphics driver, and check chrome://gpu. Remote desktop sessions usually fail.
  • Laptop with two GPUs: the site suggests setting Chrome or Edge to “High performance” under Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics, then restarting the browser.
  • “The graphics card stopped responding”: the WebGPU device was lost. Reload the page.
  • “Too many people are playing”: the site’s server hit its daily request limit. Try later or use the Windows build.
  • Lag: turn on “No Spell Effects”, lower Render Scale, or close other heavy tabs. On weak machines the Windows build may run better.
  • Azeroth Survivors is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard Entertainment. World of Warcraft and its art and names belong to Blizzard.
  • It is free. The browser version installs nothing.
  • The Windows build is offered only on the official site (a RAR archive of about 600 MB). We do not link mirrors, and copycat domains may bundle anything.
  • The official page links the game’s Discord; we found no other author page or socials there.

FAQ

What is Azeroth Survivors?

A free fan game by Aethus that turns World of Warcraft Classic into a Vampire Survivors-style run. You pick a class, survive waves of monsters in a classic zone, choose spells on level-up cards and fight that zone's bosses. It is not made or endorsed by Blizzard.

Where do I play Azeroth Survivors?

On the author's own site, wow.aethus.pl. The game starts right in the browser tab; the same page offers a Windows download. Other sites using the name are fan or copycat pages, not the official game.

Why do I get a black screen or a WebGPU message?

The game needs WebGPU. If your browser has none, or WebGPU finds no usable graphics card (hardware acceleration off, a blocked GPU or driver, remote desktop), the site shows a warning instead of starting. Use current Chrome or Edge, turn on hardware acceleration and update your graphics driver.

Does Azeroth Survivors work in Firefox or on a phone?

The site only names Chrome, Edge and Safari. Firefox has WebGPU on some systems, but the site's own code notes Firefox players running out of memory after a few minutes. The game has touch controls and phone workarounds in its code, but we have not tested it on a phone.

How many classes and zones does Azeroth Survivors have?

The game's built-in texts list nine classes (Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Druid) and nine zones from Elwynn Forest to the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, each with five named bosses. Counts are from build v0.2.0 of 2026-10-16 and may change.

Is there a download version?

Yes. The official page links a Windows build (a RAR archive of about 600 MB) for people whose browser lacks WebGPU. Get it only from wow.aethus.pl, not from mirror sites.

Unofficial. This page is written by an independent directory. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment or Aethus (Azeroth Survivors's author). We do not host any files, and we never link to game files, ROMs or ISOs.
