PS5 Emulators in 2026: Which Ones Are Real (PC & Xbox)
Last updated Oct 20, 2026
Short answer (checked 20 October 2026): a few real, open-source PS5 emulators exist for PC (KytyPS5 and SharpEmu), and a converter called AnyPS5 takes another route by turning PS5 games into native PC programs. All three are early: some games boot and a few are playable with glitches, but most of the PS5 library does not run well. On Xbox Series X, an experimental port called PS5X has shown four small games in Developer Mode, with no public release yet. Every project needs game files from your own PS5, and anything offering a ready-made “PS5 emulator download” with games, an APK or a survey is fake or risky.
This site is not affiliated with any of these projects or with Sony. We do not host files and do not explain how to get game files.
The real projects compared

| You need | Your own game files; Vulkan 1.3 GPU; x86-64 CPU | Your own game files (eboot.bin); Vulkan 1.3 GPU (MoltenVK on Mac) |
Your own game files; a CPU with the PS5’s instruction extensions (AVX2 and others); Vulkan GPU | Xbox in Developer Mode; your own game files |

KytyPS5
The most active PS5 emulator. It started as a heavily modified version of Kyty, an older “PS4 & PS5 emulator”, and calls itself a “PlayStation 5 translation layer”. New builds appear almost daily. Its README says compatibility, stability and performance vary between versions and that you should report the version you tested. The community-run KytyPS5 Compatibility List tracks individual games.
SharpEmu
An experimental PS5 emulator “developed from scratch in C#”, per its README, which says the focus is accuracy and infrastructure rather than game-specific fixes. It loads a game’s eboot.bin, runs its CPU instructions natively and partly handles the GPU. It does not aim to run PS4 games and points to shadPS4 for those. The README links a compatibility page on sharpemu.app; other sites using the SharpEmu name are not linked from it.
AnyPS5
Not an emulator: a converter that turns a PS5 game’s executable into a native Windows or Linux program and supplies its own versions of the PS5 system libraries. It is the newest approach and the most limited in confirmed games so far. See our AnyPS5 page for details.
PS5 games on Xbox Series X (PS5X)
PS5X is an experimental port of KytyPS5 to the Xbox Series X by developer Devran Cosmo Uenal, first shown in September 2026.
- What runs: in his videos, GEX Trilogy, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Quake II, with Xbox controller input. A later interface video showed more games installed for testing, which does not mean they play.
- Performance: Quake II ran at roughly 25 to 45 fps, dropping below 20 in places, with noticeable input lag (God is a Geek).
- How it would be installed: through Xbox Developer Mode, not the normal retail console. Developer Mode is a separate console state; you switch back to Retail Mode to play your normal Xbox games. Microsoft’s documentation limits games running in Developer Mode to 5 GB of memory in the foreground (Microsoft Learn), far less than a PS5 game expects, which is one reason big titles are hard.
- Why it’s behind KytyPS5 on PC: KytyPS5’s renderer uses Vulkan, which the Xbox doesn’t support, so the graphics have to be rewritten for DirectX 12.
- Can you get it? As of 20 October 2026 we found no public release and no official repository. Coverage described it as a research project to be released later. Treat any site offering a “PS5X download” or “PS5 emulator for Xbox” today as unofficial.
- It includes no PS5 firmware, keys or games; you would still need game files from your own PS5.
Fake PS5 emulators
Searches for a PS5 emulator turn up many fakes. Signs to watch for:
- “PCSX5” and similar names. There is no real PS5 emulator by that name; it borrows the name of the long-standing PS2 emulator PCSX2.
- “PS5 emulator APK” for phones. No real PS5 emulator runs on Android or iOS today.
- Surveys, “human verification” or a download of an .exe before you can use it. Real emulators are open source on GitHub and never ask for this.
- Bundled games, BIOS or firmware. Real projects ship none of these.
- shadPS4 is a PS4 emulator, not a PS5 one. It is a real, open-source project; see our shadPS4 guide. Sites calling it a “PS5 emulator” are mixing them up.
If a project isn’t on GitHub with its source code, or the site asks for anything before the download, avoid it.
Do you need your own games?
Yes. KytyPS5, SharpEmu and AnyPS5 all state that they include no copyrighted system software or game data, and that you must use games you own. We do not explain how to dump or obtain game files, and we only link the projects’ official repositories.

FAQ
Is there a working PS5 emulator?
Yes, but only early ones. KytyPS5 and SharpEmu are open-source PS5 emulators for PC that boot a growing number of real games, including Demon's Souls and Astro Bot, usually with glitches and low frame rates. AnyPS5 takes a different route and converts PS5 games into native PC programs, but its own compatibility list confirms only one game. None of them runs the PS5 library well yet.
Can I play PS5 games on PC?
Some, experimentally. With KytyPS5 or SharpEmu on a strong PC and game files dumped from your own PS5, a number of titles boot and some are playable with issues. Big releases often crash or run in single-digit frame rates. Many PS5 games also have official PC versions, which are the reliable option.
Can Xbox run PS5 games?
Only in an experiment. PS5X, a port of KytyPS5 to Xbox Series X by Devran Cosmo Uenal, has been shown running GEX Trilogy, Hellboy - Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Quake II in Xbox Developer Mode, at roughly 25 to 45 fps with noticeable input lag. We found no public release or official repository for it as of 20 October 2026.
Is KytyPS5 safe, and where do I download it?
KytyPS5 is open source (GPL-2.0) and built publicly on GitHub. Download it only from its official repository, github.com/KytyPS5/KytyPS5, and its Releases page; the compatibility list lives at kytyps5.github.io. Other sites offering "KytyPS5 downloads", game packs or pre-configured builds are not run by the project.
Which PS5 emulator is best?
There is no clear winner yet. KytyPS5 has the biggest community and the most frequent builds; SharpEmu, written from scratch in C#, shows Demon's Souls, Astro Bot and Gran Turismo 7 in its README; AnyPS5 is the only one that turns games into native programs instead of emulating them. Check each project's own compatibility list for the game you care about.
Do I need my own games?
Yes. All of these projects ship no games, firmware or keys, and say you must use games you own. We do not explain how to dump or obtain game files.
