Short answer (checked 19 October 2026)
Yes, Super Mario Galaxy runs natively on PC, unofficially, through Nebula, a fan-made static recompilation of the Wii game. Version 1.0 came out on 13 October 2026 (latest 1.0.1). It runs on Windows only, is playable from the start but still a work in progress, and needs your own US Wii disc. Nebula contains no Nintendo code: the game is compiled on your own PC.
Super Mario Galaxy (2007) never left Nintendo’s consoles. Nebula, by keepvaibin, turns the Wii release into a native Windows program. It went from first preview to 1.0 in a week, and DSOGaming and TechSpot covered it.
What it is
- A static recompilation: the game’s PowerPC machine code is translated into C++ ahead of time. That code is compiled on your PC from your own copy, then run with a runtime that replaces the Wii hardware, using Direct3D 12 for graphics.
- The README credits the community work it builds on, including the Petari decompilation of the game and the Aurora, Dusklight and WiiCompiled projects.
- It works like the Xbox 360 projects in our recompiled games list, but for the Wii.
Current status
| State | Playable from the start; work in progress |
| Latest build | 1.0.1, 16 October 2026 (1.0.0 on 13 October) |
| Platforms | Windows 10/11; macOS and Android planned |
| Licence | GPL-3.0 |
According to the README, some areas run below 60 fps on weaker hardware, some lighting and bloom effects differ from the original, and bugs remain. There is no full-game comparison against the original yet, so we can’t confirm it plays well start to finish.
What you need
- Your own copy of the US Wii disc: RMGE01, revision 0. It can be an ISO, RVZ, WIA, WBFS or extracted folder; other regions and revisions are not supported.
- Windows 10 (version 1803 or later) or 11, with a Direct3D 12 graphics card.
- 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of free space.
- An internet connection for the first run: the installer downloads a compiler toolchain and builds the game files locally.
We don’t explain how to obtain or copy game data.
Was it made with AI?
Yes, and the project says so openly. Its README has a section saying Nebula was built with AI coding agents (Anthropic’s Claude), directed, reviewed and tested by the author. The game logic itself is not AI-written: it is the original code, recompiled.
Other Super Mario Galaxy projects
- Petari: the community decompilation of Super Mario Galaxy, which Nebula credits. It is source code, not a ready-to-play port.
- AstroCore: a decompilation-based PC port by another team. It has been announced, but we found no release.
Is it legal and safe?
- Nebula is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo. It ships no game code or assets.
- Use only a disc you own.
- Get it only from the official GitHub repository; copies on other sites are not the author’s.
FAQ
Can you play Super Mario Galaxy on PC?
Unofficially, yes. Nebula is a fan-made static recompilation that runs the Wii game natively on Windows. Version 1.0 came out on 13 October 2026; the game is playable from the start, but it is still a work in progress. You need your own Wii disc.
Is Nebula an emulator?
No. Nebula translates the game's PowerPC code into C++ ahead of time and compiles it on your PC, so the game runs as a native program; a runtime replaces the Wii hardware and graphics with Direct3D 12.
What do I need to play Super Mario Galaxy with Nebula?
Your own copy of the US Wii disc (RMGE01, revision 0) as an ISO, RVZ, WIA, WBFS or extracted folder, a Windows 10 or 11 PC with a Direct3D 12 graphics card, 8 GB of RAM, 16 GB of free space and an internet connection for the one-time build.
Does Nebula include the game?
No. Its README says it contains no Nintendo code or assets. The installer builds the game files on your own PC from your disc, and those files are never uploaded or shared.
Was Nebula made with AI?
Its README says it was built with AI coding agents (Anthropic's Claude), directed, reviewed and tested by the author. The game logic itself is the original code, recompiled.
Is there a Mac or Android version?
Not yet. Nebula runs on Windows only; macOS and Android are planned.
