The PC version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run running in a browser via WebAssembly and WebGL, streaming game data on demand. No install and no own game files needed.

WorkingNo game files neededUpdated Oct 17, 2026

The Simpsons: Hit & Run - WASM runs the PC version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run (2003) in a browser tab. You do not need your own game files: the site streams the game data from its server as you play. It is aimed at desktop browsers; phone support is untested. The site was working when we checked on 17 October 2026.

What it is

The port was posted to Hacker News on 21 April 2026 by the user calebj0seph under the title “The Simpsons Hit and Run Ported to WebAssembly and WebGL”, and it is hosted on a Cloudflare Workers address under the name cjoseph. The post describes it as a port to WebAssembly and WebGL; the page runs the PC version of the game. No source code repository has been published; one commenter asked for the files to be put on GitHub.

From the site’s own code we can see a few details:

  • game files are fetched in chunks from the site and cached, rather than downloaded all at once (the full data set listed by the site is about 3.6 GB);
  • sound is mixed in an AudioWorklet, the browser’s low-latency audio path;
  • cutscene videos play in an overlay above the game;
  • saves and settings are stored in your browser (IndexedDB).

How to play

  1. Open the link above in a new tab. The ?skipmovie part skips the opening videos.
  2. Press the start button on the overlay. Browsers only allow sound after a click.
  3. Wait while the first assets load. Later areas load as you reach them, so expect short pauses on a slow connection.
  4. Play with the keyboard as in the PC version. We have not verified a full key list, so we do not print one here.

Requirements

  • A current desktop browser. Chrome or Edge are the safest choice for WebAssembly games.
  • Support for cross-origin isolation features (SharedArrayBuffer and Atomics.waitAsync), which current Chromium browsers have.
  • A stable internet connection, because the game data is streamed.
  • Keyboard; controller support is not documented.
  • It is an unofficial fan project. The Simpsons: Hit & Run was developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Vivendi Universal Games; The Simpsons franchise belongs to Disney. None of them have endorsed this port.
  • The game itself is still copyrighted, and the site serves its data. We know of no official digital store that sells it today, so there is no official copy to point to.
  • We only link the port’s own site. Nothing is installed on your computer.

Not working?

  • “Atomics.waitAsync is not a function” or a filesystem-worker crash: your browser lacks a feature the port needs. Update it or switch to Chrome or Edge.
  • Black screen or no sound: click the start button again, and check that the tab is not muted.
  • Stutter: close other heavy tabs. A slow connection also causes pauses while new areas load.
  • It will not load at all: the site may be down; check back later or try another browser port from our directory.

FAQ

Can you play The Simpsons Hit and Run in a browser?

Yes. A fan port runs the PC version of The Simpsons Hit and Run in a browser tab with WebAssembly and WebGL. The site was up when we checked on 17 October 2026.

Do I need my own copy of Simpsons Hit and Run to play it in the browser?

No. The site streams the game data from its own server, so you do not pick any files. The game is still a commercial product and the port is not official.

Is there an official Simpsons Hit and Run browser version or remaster?

No. The game has not been re-released, and this browser port is an unofficial fan project, not made or approved by the rights holders.

Why does Simpsons Hit and Run WASM show a filesystem-worker error?

The port relies on newer browser features such as Atomics.waitAsync. A reported "Atomics.waitAsync is not a function" crash points to a browser that lacks it; update the browser or try a current Chrome or Edge.

Does Simpsons Hit and Run in the browser work on phones?

We have not tested it. The site has a mobile-friendly page layout, but it does not state that phones are supported, and it is mainly a keyboard game.

Unofficial. This page is written by an independent directory. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Vivendi Universal Games or calebj0seph (The Simpsons: Hit & Run WASM's author). We do not host any files, and we never link to game files, ROMs or ISOs.
