MVP Baseball 2005 PC and browser ports (XBE Recomp and mvp2005-decomp)

Two fan projects bring EA's MVP Baseball 2005 to new hardware: a native Windows recompilation of the Xbox version, and a GameCube recompilation that runs in a browser.

WorkingStatic recompilationNeeds your own copyv0.3.0-betaUpdated

You need your own copy of MVP Baseball 2005. This port only runs with files from a copy you own; there is no download or play button here. No copy? These play in your browser right away, no files needed: BO1 Zombies (vel.gg), GTA 3 Online (quenq III Web), The Simpsons: Hit & Run WASM.

What you need

For the Windows version: files from your own original Xbox copy (default.xbe and the rest of the disc); the PS2 and old PC versions are not compatible. For the browser version: your own GameCube disc image, USA rev 0 (GV4E69), and building and serving it yourself.

Short answer (checked 24 October 2026)

Two fan projects bring MVP Baseball 2005 to new hardware, unofficially. MVP-Baseball-2005-XBERecomp (maddog847) is a native Windows recompilation of the Xbox version, a public beta since 20 October 2026. mvp2005-decomp (ptitty12) recompiles the GameCube version to run in a browser, with online play. Both need your own game files; neither includes the game.

MVP Baseball 2005 is EA Sports’ baseball game for Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and PC, the last MVP Baseball with an MLB licence. Both projects below started in October 2026.

MVP-Baseball-2005-XBERecomp (Windows)

  • What it is: a native Windows recompilation of the original Xbox version, built with XboxXBERecomp by TGP482 (also behind the BLACK port).
  • Status: public beta. The README says gameplay, saving and loading and audio were tested, bugs may remain, and further development is not planned; community forks are welcome.
  • How to set it up: download the package from Releases, extract it, put the files from your own Xbox copy in the assets folder with default.xbe directly inside, and run MVP05.exe.
  • Settings in mvp05-settings.toml: output resolution and render scale, windowed or borderless (Alt+Enter or F11), widescreen and anisotropic filtering. Saves sit in the local hdd folder; back it up before upgrading. If it runs slowly, try render_percent = 100.

mvp2005-decomp (browser)

  • What it is: a static recompiler from PowerPC to WebAssembly plus a runtime that stands in for the GameCube, built for this one game. It translates the game’s main.dol in the browser from your disc image and refuses any disc except GV4E69 rev 0 (USA).
  • Status (21 October): a full nine-inning game runs at full speed in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on the developer’s desktop, with sound, controllers and the memory card. Online play between two browsers runs over WebRTC, and roster and team packs patch the game’s tables.
  • How to play: there is no public site; the repository holds source, tooling and docs, so you build and serve it yourself.
  • AI: the README opens by saying the project is “driven entirely by Claude”.

Not working?

  • Windows version won’t start: keep the supplied DLLs and settings file next to the executable, and check that default.xbe is directly in assets.
  • Wrong disc: the Windows build only takes the Xbox version; the browser build only takes the USA GameCube disc.

More sports ports: NCAA Football 10 in the browser, FIFA Street.
