Short answer (checked 24 October 2026)
Yes, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix now runs natively on PC, unofficially, as a static recompilation of the original Xbox version played through xrevive, a launcher by Teraflopping. It runs on 64-bit Windows, and on Linux and Steam Deck through Proton (experimental). It has online races on XB Online, a fan-run Xbox Live replacement, plus a save editor. You need your own Xbox disc of the Remix edition. xrevive is closed source and downloads a ready-made game executable.
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, Rockstar San Diego’s 2005 open-city street racer published by Rockstar Games, came out on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PSP, and its expanded DUB Edition Remix followed in 2006. Neither came to PC, and online play on the Xbox ended with Xbox Live 1.0 in 2010. xrevive added Midnight Club 3 online play in version 0.1.5 on 13 October 2026, two days after the repository went up, and it is the game the launcher is built around.

What it is
- A static recompilation: the Xbox game’s x86 code was translated with Xrecomp, the xrevive author’s own recompiler, into a native Windows program. It is not emulated.
- Downloaded, not built: unlike most recompilations, you don’t build the game yourself. You add your own disc image or folder in xrevive, and it downloads a matching executable from its server. That executable holds code translated from the game; the README says no ISOs or game assets are included, so cars, the city, sound and video come from your disc.
- Online through XB Online: when you sign in with an xb.live account, the game starts online, and each account keeps its own online saves. If xb.live is down, it still starts offline.
- Title update from XB Online: online play needs the game’s title update, which xrevive downloads before Play (always, since 0.1.23). As far as we can tell that is Rockstar’s own update file, now hosted by XB Online.
- Closed source: neither xrevive nor its Xrecomp tool has published code. We couldn’t find a separate open repository for this Midnight Club 3 build. More on that on the xrevive page.

What xrevive adds for Midnight Club 3, per its README and release notes:
- XB Online sign-in, friends, live lobbies, leaderboards and achievements;
- a profile save editor, save backup and import, and PS2 save conversion (a PS2 Remix save becomes an Xbox profile with your garage and cars);
- a PLAY WITH VIP button for the VIP car pack, and addons with on/off switches;
- custom soundtracks from your own MP3, FLAC, Ogg, WAV, M4A or AAC files;
- a language list with the game’s English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, plus fan translation addons for Portuguese, Russian and Arabic;
- resolution, aspect ratio, anti-aliasing, frame-rate limit, and DirectX 12, DirectX 11 or Vulkan.
Known problems: on 24 October 2026 the xrevive tracker had open reports of sudden crashes, a crash at the start of the “57 Bel Air” tournament, sound problems, and car paint that looks too bright with the Environment and Road Shine option on. Version 0.1.12 fixed races feeling like 30 fps while signed in. We didn’t play it ourselves.
What you need
- Your own Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix disc for the original Xbox, as an
.isoor extracted folder. In issue #4 a user reported that the launcher flags the plain DUB Edition as the wrong version and that it doesn’t run, while the Remix worked. We couldn’t confirm which regions work. We don’t explain how to obtain game files. - 64-bit Windows with Direct3D 11 (xrevive checks for Windows 8.1 or newer), or Linux with Wine or Proton.
- Internet for the game download and title update, and a free xb.live account if you want to play online.
How to install
From the official README, at a high level: install xrevive from its GitHub Releases page (a setup EXE for Windows or an AppImage for Linux), add your disc image or game folder, and let it download the Midnight Club 3 executable. Sign in to xb.live by QR code or on the website if you want to play online, then press Play. Saves, addons and settings are on the game’s page in the launcher.
Other Midnight Club 3 projects
- mcdub3-nx by laureladastra: a separate, MIT-licensed recompilation of the original DUB Edition, built with the open xboxrecomp toolkit. Since 0.4.0 (25 October 2026) it also runs the DUB Edition Remix as its own app, from boot through menus, garage, career and races with music and sound, per the release notes; there are Switch files for the US and European Remix, and a Mac app you build yourself. Its README says the Nintendo Switch build can be played to 100% career progress at 20 to 25 fps with maximum overclock, and Mac and Linux hold 30 fps at 5x resolution; Windows is experimental. It supports the US and European discs. Its releases (0.4.0, 25 October 2026) are Switch files only; on PC and Mac you build it from your own disc, which takes about an hour on Windows the first time. About three quarters of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author. It has no online play. Official repository: laureladastra/mcdub3-nx.
- Midnight Club: Los Angeles is a different game; its Xbox 360 recompilations are not Midnight Club 3.
Is it legal and safe?
- xrevive is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft, per its README, nor by Rockstar Games.
- The game’s discs and assets are not included, but the executable xrevive downloads contains code translated from the game, and the title update comes from XB Online.
- xrevive has no published source code, and its author has not answered a public question about AI use. The README says the Windows installer is Authenticode-signed; we didn’t verify that ourselves.
- Use only a disc you own.
- The real project is only on its official GitHub repository. Sites offering a “Midnight Club 3 PC download”, activation keys or ready-made installers with the game included are not affiliated with it and are often malware.
More recompiled Xbox racers: Burnout 3: Takedown, which xrevive also lists, and Criterion’s BLACK. Another recompiled street racer: Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Full list: recompiled games.
FAQ
Is there a Midnight Club 3 PC port?
Not an official one. Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition came out on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PSP, and its 2006 Remix on Xbox and PS2, never on PC. Since October 2026 an unofficial native PC version of the Xbox Remix plays through xrevive, a launcher by Teraflopping, and a separate open-source port, mcdub3-nx, runs the original DUB Edition and, since 25 October 2026, the Remix on Switch, Mac and Linux, without online play.
Can I play Midnight Club 3 online again?
Yes, through xrevive. Since xrevive 0.1.5 (13 October 2026) the game signs in to XB Online, a fan-run replacement for Xbox Live 1.0 on xb.live. It needs a free xb.live account and the game's title update, which xrevive downloads before Play. XB Online is not Microsoft's service.
Which version of Midnight Club 3 do I need?
For xrevive, your own original Xbox disc of Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix. A user reported that the plain DUB Edition was flagged as the wrong version and did not run. mcdub3-nx started with the original DUB Edition (US or European) and added the Remix as a separate app in 0.4.0 on 25 October 2026. We don't explain how to obtain game files.
Is it an emulator?
No. It is a static recompilation, meaning the Xbox game's code was translated into a native Windows program. In xrevive that translation was done on the author's side, and the launcher downloads the finished executable to run with the files from your disc.
Is there a Midnight Club 3 save editor?
Yes. xrevive's Saves tab has a Midnight Club 3 profile editor (since 0.1.6), backup and import, and conversion of a PS2 Remix save into an Xbox profile with your garage and cars.
Does it run on the Steam Deck?
xrevive's Linux AppImage runs the Windows game through Proton or Wine, which the README calls experimental, and it can add the game to Steam with Steam Input. We couldn't confirm how well it plays on a Deck.
