Burnout Dominator Reversed (Burnout Dominator PC port)

An unofficial native PC version of the 2007 PS2 racer Burnout Dominator, recompiled with PS2Recomp. Playable start to finish at 60 fps and up to 4x resolution; built from your own EU disc.

WorkingStatic recompilationNeeds your own copyUpdated

You need your own copy of Burnout Dominator. This port only runs with files from a copy you own; there is no download or play button here. No copy? These play in your browser right away, no files needed: BO1 Zombies (vel.gg), GTA 3 Online (quenq III Web), The Simpsons: Hit & Run WASM.

What you need

Your own European PS2 disc image of Burnout Dominator (SLES-54627), kept in place because the game reads it at every launch, about 20 GB free, a Vulkan graphics card, and on Windows Visual Studio 2022 or 2026 Community with C++, Python 3.12 and Git. There is no download: you build it yourself.

Short answer (checked 22 October 2026)

Yes, Burnout Dominator now runs natively on PC, unofficially, through Burnout Dominator Reversed by literalynn, a static recompilation of the PlayStation 2 game with PS2Recomp. The README calls it playable from start to finish, at 60 fps and up to 4x resolution, on Windows and Linux. There is no download: you build it from your own European disc (SLES-54627).

Burnout Dominator, EA UK’s 2007 entry in the Burnout series published by Electronic Arts, came out on the PlayStation 2 and PSP and never on PC. literalynn created the repository on 6 October 2026 and had pushed about 150 commits by 19 October, with no releases or tags. The repository had 9 GitHub stars on 22 October. We couldn’t find press coverage of the port.

This site is not affiliated with literalynn, EA UK, Criterion Games, Electronic Arts or Sony.

What it is

  • A static recompilation: PS2Recomp translates the code of the PS2’s main CPU (the Emotion Engine) into C++, 51,161 generated files compiled into the executable.
  • Compiled vector programs: the microprograms of the PS2’s two vector units, which transform and light every vertex, are compiled ahead of time into C++ as well, with an interpreter for the rest.
  • GPU graphics: the PS2 graphics chip is drawn by paraLLEl-GS on your graphics card through Vulkan, which also renders at higher resolutions.
  • Still emulated: the I/O processor running the game’s own modules, the sound chip, the video decoder, DMA and timers.
  • Built with AI help: a few commits are co-authored by Claude, per the repository’s contributor list.

The README says nothing in the game is skipped or faked: system library functions are replaced by native code only where their identity is proven. The game runs on three threads: game code with the I/O processor, vector programs with the graphics interfaces, and submission to the GPU. It works like the other console recompilations in our recompiled games list.

Current status

State Playable from start to finish and stable, per the README; work now goes into speed and modding
Builds None published; you build it yourself (repository created 6 October 2026, last push 19 October)
Platforms Windows; Linux with the documented commands; macOS not verified
Licence GPL-3.0; paraLLEl-GS is LGPL-3.0; the game is not covered

What works, per the README’s status table:

  • boot, intro videos, menus, World Tour, car select, events and results;
  • races with cars, traffic, damage, crashes and Impact Time, reflections and the HUD;
  • the memory card (your profile is saved after every event), plus save states on F5 and F7;
  • Xbox, PlayStation and other SDL controllers with vibration, and keyboard and mouse;
  • up to 4x resolution (2560 pixels wide) with supersampling, FXAA and 16:9;
  • music, engines, crashes and menu sound;
  • 60 fps in six-car races, and a keep_speed option that runs extra simulation steps instead of slowing the race when frames come late.

Known problems: the README lists the sound chip’s reverb as missing. The repository had no open issues on 22 October 2026, so there are few public reports from other players yet. We didn’t play the game through ourselves.

The README also lists bugs fixed on the way, which explain what playing it looked like before: every square root in the game was wrong, which squashed car bodies flat; a register mix-up loaded the wrong track sections; and the first race drew one frame per second with corrupted textures before paraLLEl-GS and compiled vector programs brought it to 60.

What you need

  • Your own European PS2 disc image of Burnout Dominator (SLES-54627). The installer checks it, and the game reads it every time it starts, so leave the ISO in place. Other versions are not supported. We don’t explain how to obtain or copy game data.
  • About 20 GB of free space.
  • Windows: Visual Studio 2026 or 2022 Community with Desktop development with C++, plus Python 3.12, Git and PowerShell (the README installs them with winget).
  • Linux: the compiler, CMake, Ninja, X11, ALSA and FFmpeg development packages listed in the README.
  • A Vulkan graphics card; a dedicated one for 2x and 4x resolution.
  • A CPU with fast single cores; four threads are enough.

How to install

From the official README, at a high level. On Windows, clone the repository, drop your ISO onto Installer.bat (30 to 90 minutes the first time), then start the game with Play.bat. On Linux, run the install script with the path to your ISO, then the run command. To update, pull the repository and run the installer again.

Controls and settings

PS2 Keyboard and mouse Gamepad
✕ accelerate W, left click A / ✕
□ brake Space X / □
R1 boost, Impact Time Left Ctrl RB / R1
Steering A, D D-pad, left stick
△ back V, Escape, right click Y / △

Every key can be changed in the F1 menu, which pauses the game and also holds volume, resolution, anti-aliasing and aspect ratio. F11 or Alt+Enter switches to full screen, F5 and F7 save and load a state, and F9 marks a glitch for a bug report. Settings live in settings.ini next to Play.bat, including 50 or 60 Hz, progressive scan, fast loading screens and the stick dead zone.

  • Burnout Dominator Reversed is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts, Criterion Games or Sony Interactive Entertainment.
  • The README says game files and the code derived from them are never committed and stay on your machine; the repository holds only the project’s own code, tools and documentation.
  • Use only a disc you own.
  • Get it only from the official GitHub repository. Sites offering the port bundled with the game are not the project.

FAQ

Is there a Burnout Dominator PC port?

Not an official one. Burnout Dominator only came out on PlayStation 2 and PSP in 2007. Since October 2026 there is an unofficial native version of the PS2 game, Burnout Dominator Reversed by literalynn, for Windows and Linux. It has no download; you build it from your own disc.

Is it an emulator?

Not for the game itself. The PS2's main CPU code is translated ahead of time into C++ with PS2Recomp and compiled into the program, and the vector unit programs are compiled to C++ too. The graphics chip is drawn on your GPU with paraLLEl-GS over Vulkan. The I/O processor, sound chip and video decoder are still emulated.

Is Burnout Dominator Reversed playable?

The README calls it playable from start to finish and stable, with World Tour, races, crashes, Impact Time, saves, sound and 60 fps in six-car races. The only item listed as missing is the sound chip's reverb. We didn't play it through ourselves.

Which version of Burnout Dominator do I need?

Your own European PlayStation 2 disc image (SLES-54627). The installer checks it, and the game reads it at every launch, so keep the ISO where it is. The US PS2 release and the PSP version are not supported. We don't explain how to obtain game files.

Is there a download or an EXE?

No. On 22 October 2026 the repository had no releases. You drop your ISO onto the installer, which builds the game on your PC in 30 to 90 minutes the first time. Sites offering a ready-made Burnout Dominator PC download are not this project.

What PC do I need?

Single-core CPU speed matters most, since the game code and the graphics programs each run on one thread; four CPU threads are enough. The GPU needs Vulkan; the PS2's own resolution is light, while 2x and 4x need a dedicated card. On a Ryzen 7 9800X3D a six-car race uses about 5.6 ms of a 16.7 ms frame on the busier thread.
