You need your own copy of Bayonetta 2. This port only runs with files from a copy you own; there is no download or play button here. No copy? These play in your browser right away, no files needed: BO1 Zombies (vel.gg), GTA 3 Online (quenq III Web), The Simpsons: Hit & Run WASM.

What you need

Your own extracted Switch copy of Bayonetta 2 with update 1.2 (v131072) applied, as plain ExeFS and RomFS folders; encrypted packages are refused. Windows 10/11 x64 with a Vulkan 1.3 GPU and about 1.5 GB free; Linux in testing.

Short answer (checked 21 October 2026)

Yes, the Switch version of Bayonetta 2 now runs natively on Windows, unofficially, through B2recomp by K0NL, a static recompilation with no emulator. It is early: the prologue and the start of chapter 1 have been played. The latest release is v0.2.7 (20 October 2026), and a Linux version is in testing. The download is a builder: it compiles the game on your PC from your own v1.2 files.

Bayonetta 2 is PlatinumGames’ 2014 action game, published by Nintendo on the Wii U and released again on the Switch in February 2018. Unlike the first game, which reached Steam in 2017, it has never had a PC release. K0NL created the B2recomp repository on 17 October 2026 and published v0.1.0 the same day; ten more Windows releases followed in four days. The repository had more than 270 GitHub stars on 21 October. We found no press coverage of it yet.

What it is

  • A static recompilation of the Switch version: B2recomp translates the game’s AArch64 program code into C and compiles it into a Windows program. There is no CPU interpreter and no JIT.
  • A replacement for the console: its own system layer handles threads, files, audio and input, and reimplements NVN, Nintendo’s graphics API, on Vulkan.
  • Built on your PC: the repository and the builder contain no game code, game assets, Nintendo SDK code, firmware, system fonts or keys. The translated code, the compiled game and its shaders are made on your PC from your own files.
  • Related to the Smash Ultimate port: B2recomp’s code translator and runtime started as copies of ssbu-recomp by Denkishi, with every change marked. The README says AI helped in reverse engineering the game, and many commits in the history carry a co-author line for Claude, an AI coding assistant.

Current status

State Early; “Expect bugs”, per the README
Latest release v0.2.7 for Windows, 20 October 2026
First release v0.1.0, 17 October 2026
Platforms Windows 10/11 x64; Linux in testing (Linux Test 5, 20 October 2026)
Licence GPL-3.0-or-later for B2recomp’s own code; the game is not covered

What the README reports, measured on the developer’s PC:

  • the title screen, attract sequence and a new game run;
  • the prologue was played through (cutscenes, chapter card, first fights) with no crash;
  • chapter 1 was played by hand past its first part, with a controller;
  • a scripted test of the tutorial and first fight runs at 59.5 fps with no faults;
  • later chapters are still being played and tested, and other PCs, graphics cards and Windows 10 had not been tested by the developer.

Features: a resolution scale up to 4K, borderless and full-screen modes, an experimental frame rate of up to 120 fps, most controllers plus keyboard and mouse with a layout like the first Bayonetta on PC, and support for mods made for the Switch version, including code patches with a quick rebuild. Online play cannot work, because it would need Nintendo’s servers; since v0.2.7 the game says so instead of closing.

Known problems: on 21 October 2026 there were 4 open issues: a bug in the prologue at 120 fps, combo timing that changes with the frame rate, dull colours on HDR screens, and a request for 32:9. The v0.2.7 notes advise keeping HDR off for now. On AMD Radeon RX 400 and 500 cards, the README says, the game runs on Windows but stutters while it builds shaders on the first runs; Linux handles those cards better. We didn’t play the game through ourselves.

What you need

  • Your own extracted Switch copy of Bayonetta 2 with update 1.2 (v131072) applied: one folder with the exefs and romfs folders as plain files. Encrypted packages (.nsp, .xci, .nca) are refused. Keep that folder in place, because the game reads romfs from it every time it runs. We don’t explain how to obtain or copy game data.
  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with a graphics card that has a Vulkan 1.3 driver, and about 1.5 GB of free space for the builder.
  • Optional: your console’s system font; without it a font from your PC is used.
  • With the builder package nothing else is needed. Building from the source instead needs Python 3.10 or newer and free tools listed in the project’s build guide.

How to install

At a high level, from the official README: download B2recomp-builder-<version>.zip from the project’s GitHub Releases page and unzip it into a folder of its own. Start B2recomp.exe, choose your game folder, and press Build; it takes about 5 minutes on a fast PC. The window then becomes a launcher: pick your display, frame-rate and control settings, and press Play. Saves are kept in build\play\userdata. Windows SmartScreen may warn because the program is not signed. To update, unzip the new builder and copy your saves and settings across, as the release notes describe. The Linux builder has its own START HERE.txt.

Other Bayonetta 2 projects

We know of no other PC port of Bayonetta 2. The first Bayonetta has an official PC version on Steam.

  • B2recomp is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project, not affiliated with, endorsed or approved by Nintendo, PlatinumGames or SEGA. It takes no donations and sells nothing.
  • The README says no copyrighted game data, Nintendo SDK code, firmware, system data or keys are included or linked. Everything built from your copy must stay on your PC; never share it.
  • Get it only from the official GitHub repository and its Releases page. Each release lists the SHA-256 of its zip.

More Switch games on PC: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

FAQ

Is there a Bayonetta 2 PC port?

Not an official one. The first Bayonetta came to Steam in 2017, but Bayonetta 2 has only been released on Wii U and Switch. Since 17 October 2026 there is an unofficial native Windows version, B2recomp by K0NL, which builds the game on your PC from your own Switch files. The latest Windows release is v0.2.7 from 20 October 2026.

What is B2recomp?

B2recomp (short for Bayonetta 2 Recompiled) is a static recompilation of the Switch version. It translates the game's AArch64 code to C on your PC, compiles it, and runs it with its own replacement for the Switch's system layer, including the NVN graphics API on Vulkan. It is not an emulator.

Does the B2recomp download include the game?

No. The release is a builder package with B2recomp's source code and the free tools the build needs. The README says there is no prebuilt game and never will be; the game is built from your own files and must stay on your PC.

Which version of Bayonetta 2 do I need?

Your own extracted Switch copy with update 1.2 (v131072) applied, as plain ExeFS and RomFS folders. The builder checks the version, and it refuses encrypted packages because the project decrypts nothing and reads no keys. We don't explain how to get game files.

How far can you play?

According to the README, the prologue has been played through without a crash and chapter 1 has been played by hand past its first part. Later chapters are being tested, and other PCs and Windows 10 were not yet tested by the developer. We didn't play it ourselves.

Does B2recomp work on Linux or Steam Deck?

A native Linux version is in testing as separate pre-release builders on the Releases page; the latest is Linux Test 5 from 20 October 2026. We couldn't confirm any reports from Steam Deck users.

Unofficial. This page is written by an independent directory. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Nintendo (developed by PlatinumGames) or K0NL (B2recomp (Bayonetta 2 PC port)'s author). We do not host any files, and we never link to game files, ROMs or ISOs.
