Short answer (checked 20 October 2026)

Yes, the 2019 Switch Link’s Awakening now runs natively on PC, unofficially, through LAS Recomp by peiikai, a static recompilation, with no emulator. It runs on Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux. It is a beta: the latest regular release is Beta 4 (15 October 2026). It adds ultrawide support and a built-in randomizer. You need your own extracted v1.0.0 game files. The README says it was made almost entirely with AI.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Grezzo’s 2019 remake of the 1993 Game Boy game, came out only on Nintendo Switch. peiikai created the LAS Recomp repository on 8 October 2026. The earliest release still listed is Beta 3 from 14 October, so we couldn’t confirm when the first build appeared. TweakTown called it the first native Nintendo Switch PC port, and TechSpot covered it as part of a wave of AI-built Switch recompilations. The repository had more than 1,300 GitHub stars on 20 October.

What it is

  • A static recompilation of the Switch game: the game’s ARM code is translated ahead of time into a native program for your machine. Graphics go through Vulkan on Windows and Linux and Metal (with MetalFX upscaling) on macOS.
  • Built on your machine: release builds hold none of the game’s code. On first launch the start screen generates it from your own game files and compiles it with a bundled compiler.
  • Made almost entirely with AI: the README says nearly all the code, tooling, reverse engineering and documentation were written by Anthropic’s Claude through Claude Code, with a human directing, testing and reviewing.

It works like the other console recompilations in our recompiled games list.

Current status

State Beta; bugs and crashes are likely, per the README
Latest build Beta 4, 15 October 2026 (test builds test-perf-5 and -6 on 19 October)
Platforms Windows (x86-64), macOS 15+ (Apple silicon), Linux (x86-64 AppImage; ARM64 experimental and untested)
Licence MIT for LAS Recomp’s own code; the game is not covered

Features listed in the README and the Beta 4 notes:

  • an unlocked aspect ratio up to ultrawide, with the original 16:9 one option away;
  • adjustable internal resolution, MetalFX on macOS, and SMAA and FSR 1 options on Windows and Linux;
  • remappable keyboard and controller controls, Xbox or PlayStation button prompts, and controller rumble;
  • optional 360-degree movement, blur removal, mirror mode and eight game languages;
  • the LAS-Randomizer built in, with item, entrance, enemy, music and dungeon room shuffles and per-seed saves.

Known problems: the README warns of crashes, possibly unsolvable randomizer seeds and graphics issues, especially in wide and ultrawide aspect ratios. On 20 October 2026 there were 42 open issues; the most discussed are low frame rates and drops to 30 FPS on some PCs, Macs and the Steam Deck, Vulkan errors on start with some Intel and AMD graphics, and crashes during level transitions. The test-perf builds exist to test fixes for those performance reports. We didn’t play the game through ourselves.

What you need

  • Your own extracted Link’s Awakening game files, version 1.0.0 with no updates: a folder with the exefs and romfs folders, or their contents. We don’t explain how to obtain or copy game data.
  • Windows 10 or newer, x86-64, or Linux x86-64, with a CPU that supports AVX2 and a GPU with Vulkan 1.3.
  • Or an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or newer.
  • Optional: the Switch system fonts for an authentic look. Replacement fonts are used by default; the README says the Switch fonts are Nintendo’s and must come from your own hardware.

How to install

From the official README, at a high level: download the build for your system from the project’s GitHub Releases page (a ZIP for Windows, a DMG for macOS, an AppImage for Linux), start it, use the start screen’s game-file setup to choose your folder, and wait for the one-time setup to build the game code. Then press Play. On Windows, keep the LAS Recomp folder somewhere writable, because saves and settings are stored next to the program.

  • Link’s Awakening DX HD: a 2023 fan-made PC port of the Game Boy Color version, a different game release. Nintendo Life reported in December 2023 that Nintendo issued a takedown notice and the download was removed. We don’t cover or link it.
  • LAS-Randomizer by Owen_Splat: the randomizer LAS Recomp builds in. On its own it is a randomizer for the Switch version, not a PC port.
  • LAS Recomp is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Nintendo. The README says no game files, game code, assets or fonts are included, in the repository or in the release builds.
  • Use only files from a copy you own.
  • Get it only from the official GitHub repository. Sites offering the port bundled with the game are not the project.

FAQ

Is there a Zelda Link's Awakening PC port?

Not an official one. Since October 2026 there is an unofficial native version of the 2019 Switch remake for Windows, macOS and Linux, LAS Recomp by peiikai. It is a beta; the latest regular release is Beta 4 from 15 October 2026. You need your own extracted v1.0.0 game files.

Where is LAS Recomp on GitHub?

The official repository is peiikai/LASRecomp, and its builds are on that repository's Releases page. Builds named test-perf are test builds for specific bug reports, not regular releases.

Is LAS Recomp an emulator?

No. It is a static recompilation, so the Switch game's code is translated into a native program. The release builds contain none of the game's code; on first launch the app generates and compiles it on your machine from your own game files.

Which version of Link's Awakening do I need?

Your own extracted game files of version 1.0.0 with no updates applied, meaning the exefs and romfs folders or their contents. The README says it will not explain how to get these files, and neither do we.

Was LAS Recomp made with AI?

Yes, and the README says so up front. It says nearly all the code, tooling, reverse engineering and documentation were written by Anthropic's Claude through Claude Code, directed, tested and reviewed by a human.

Does LAS Recomp have a randomizer?

Yes. It has LAS-Randomizer built in, with item, entrance, enemy, music and dungeon room shuffles, plus many extra check types. You can switch between the normal game and any seed without restarting.

Unofficial. This page is written by an independent directory. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Nintendo (developed by Grezzo) or peiikai (LAS Recomp (Zelda: Link's Awakening PC port)'s author). We do not host any files, and we never link to game files, ROMs or ISOs.
