Halo CE Mobile (HCEMobile) is a fan-made version of Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox, 2001) that runs on iPhone, iPad and Android, and on computers, as an installable web app. It is rebuilt from the community decompilation of the original Xbox game. The site is owned and run by Trevor (BanTrev on X).
It does not include the game. You choose a verified disc image of your own Xbox copy of Halo: Combat Evolved, so this page has no play button; we only describe ports that need your own game files.
Status on 2026-10-17: the site loads.
What it can do
- The full game: the campaign and multiplayer of Halo: Combat Evolved, running from your own disc image, offline once installed.
- Online play: a free account gives you a gamertag, Social, Ranked and Experimental matchmaking playlists with ranks from 1 to 50, Custom Games lobbies you can host or join in progress, friends, clans and chat.
- Co-op and local play: split screen for up to four players, System Link, and remote co-op where the host streams player 2’s view to a friend’s device.
- Saves and updates: keep several copies of the game, each with its own saved games, export and restore them, and get updates automatically.
What you need
- A disc image (
.isoor.xiso) of Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox, made from a copy you own. The site only accepts verified copies. We do not link to other sources of game files. - About 1.8 GB of storage: only the game’s maps folder is copied into the app’s private storage, after which you can delete the disc image. The site says nothing is uploaded.
- A current browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
How to install
- iPhone or iPad: in Safari tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, then Add. In Chrome or Edge on iPhone, Share is at the top right.
- Android: in Chrome tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app (or Add to Home screen). In Samsung Internet use ☰, then Add page to, then Home screen.
- On first launch, choose your disc image. Turn the phone sideways to play.
Controls
- Touch: two layouts, Modern (like mobile shooters) and Original Xbox controller, both editable. You can move and resize HUD elements.
- Controllers: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, MFi and Backbone.
- Keyboard and mouse: every action can be rebound in Settings.
Is it safe and legal?
- It is an unofficial fan project created under Microsoft’s Game Content Usage Rules. Halo belongs to Microsoft, which has not endorsed it.
- The site states that no game data is included and you need your own copy of the game.
- It is built on OpenCE (formerly halo-ce-universal), which starts from the Halo decompilations punpckhdq/halo and bnunu/halo-1.
Not working?
- A level goes black or the game stops: turn on lower-resolution textures in Settings.
- Models or menus look stretched: try drawing paths A, B and C in Settings; each takes effect on the next launch.
- Online games will not connect on mobile data: the site offers an optional custom TURN relay setting for networks that block direct connections.
- Help: the site points to its Discord and a Getting Started guide.
