Short answer (checked 21 October 2026)
All-22 Pokémon is a free, unofficial fan site by Cole Thereum that turns Pokémon into an American football team. Build your 22-man lineup, draft it under the 17-0 or 151 Challenge rules and simulate a season, or play it in arcade football. It runs in the browser at all22pokemon.com, with nothing to download and no account needed.
The site went live on 8 October 2026, according to its own patch notes (Held Games dates it to the 9th). It grew out of a post by @OldTownJB asking people to field a full starting lineup from the original Pokémon, no Legendaries. Cole Thereum built a lineup builder for it, and the site has been updated almost every day since. Dexerto and Retro Dodo covered it in its first week.
What you can do on the site
- All-22 Builder: pick Pokémon from any generation for all 22 spots, choose a 3-4 or 4-3 defense, a fullback or slot receiver, and an optional kicker. Drag players to swap spots, then save the picture or copy a link.
- 17-0 Challenge: 22 rounds. Each round rolls a region and a type, and you place a matching Pokémon in any open spot (up to three Legendaries, five rerolls). Then your team plays a 17-game season. Can you go unbeaten?
- 151 Challenge: the same, but each round gives you a random Pokémon from the original 151.
- Fantasy Draft: a snake draft with friends or computer teams, in public or private lobbies with a pick timer, followed by a simulated season.
- ALL-22 BOWL and ALL-22 PRO: two playable football games that use the team you built. Retro Dodo describes Bowl as a top-down, SNES-style game and Pro as a broadcast-camera game. The site lists 32 gym stadiums for Bowl and leagues in all nine regions for Pro.
- Franchise: run a Gym Leader’s team over several seasons, with a draft, trades, contracts and evolutions. Games are played in ALL-22 PRO.
- Leaderboard: optional. Sign in with X, Google or Discord to post your best challenge seasons.
How is a Pokémon rated?
The site grades each Pokémon at each position from its base stats, its size and its type. Quarterbacks, pass rushers and cornerbacks matter most, and your four weakest spots pull the whole team down. The Scouting Guide on the site shows which stats count where (Speed is key for receivers, Defense for the offensive line, and so on) but keeps the exact numbers secret.
Controls
The builder and challenges are point-and-click: click a player to swap them out, or drag one onto another. The site’s own text also has tap-and-hold instructions for touch screens. In the two football games you can remap keys and controller buttons in Settings (added on 14 October, per the patch notes).
Can you play it on a phone?
We haven’t tested it. The builder shows touch instructions (“tap a player”, “press and hold for their stats”), so it is designed with phones in mind. We couldn’t confirm how the arcade football games handle touch.
Does it use art from the Pokémon games?
Yes. The Pokémon images on the site are the official sprites and artwork, which the About page says come from the PokéAPI project; you can switch between pixel, retro and artwork styles. We don’t show them here. We couldn’t confirm whether any AI tools were used to make the site.
Is it official, and will it stay up?
No. The site says it is a free fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures or The Pokémon Company. Its terms say it can change or shut down at any time, and Pokémon fan games have been taken down before. We check all22pokemon.com regularly; if it goes, this page will say so.
