Short answer (checked 20 October 2026)
Yes, Skate 2 runs natively on Windows, unofficially, through Skate 2 PC by Christian Ortel, a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 game made with the ReXGlue SDK. The latest version is 0.1.1 (12 October 2026). Free Skate, career and replays work, with unlocked frame rates and 2× rendering; you need files from your own Xbox 360 copy in the one supported revision.
Skate 2 came out in January 2009 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, made by EA Black Box for Electronic Arts, and never came to PC. Skate 2 PC’s repository was created on 12 October 2026, and versions 0.1.0 and 0.1.1 were released the same day. It follows other ReXGlue ports of Xbox 360 games, including Skate 3 Recomp. We couldn’t find press coverage of the Skate 2 port.

What it is
- A static recompilation: ReXGlue translates the game’s Xbox 360 PowerPC executable into C++, which is compiled into a Windows program together with game-specific fixes. A runtime supplies the Xbox 360 system services, sound and input.
- Xenia-based graphics: rendering uses ReXGlue’s Xenos GPU plugin, ported from the Xenia emulator, which translates the console’s GPU commands and shaders to Direct3D 12. So the CPU code is native, but the graphics still go through a compatibility layer.
- What the download contains: the player package on GitHub Releases holds the compiled program, which includes the game’s code recompiled for Windows. The project’s licence says it does not cover that generated code. The game’s data is not included: a one-time import copies it from your own extracted files.
- Built on earlier work: the credits name the Xenia project, Xenia game-patch research on Skate 2’s frame timing, and the earlier Skate-2-Team recompilation, which was used as an analysis reference.

Current status
| State | Early (0.1.x), playable |
| Latest build | 0.1.1, 12 October 2026 (0.1.0 the same day) |
| Platforms | Windows 10/11 x64 with Direct3D 12 |
| Licence | MIT for the new port code |
What the README lists:
- Free Skate, career gameplay and instant replay;
- controller input (a USB DualSense works directly without DS4Windows), selectable audio output and local saves;
- unlimited or paced frame rates, with 1× and 2× rendering profiles and an experimental 4× option;
- a native launcher (
Launch Skate 2.exe), added in 0.1.1, that can be added to Armoury Crate as a custom game.
Known problems: the known-issues page says only one game revision is accepted, a black loading screen can appear before the title screen, shader preparation can cause pauses, and running unlimited FPS without the supplied launchers can produce coloured stripes and black surfaces. True 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide is not implemented. Testing so far comes from one Windows PC: about an hour of career progressed without reported glitches, but finishing the career, every mission and the photo challenges have not been checked. One issue was open on 20 October 2026, a black screen followed by a crash on an RTX 3060 PC. There have been no code changes since 12 October. We didn’t play it ourselves.
What you need
- Your own Skate 2 files from the Xbox 360 version, extracted, with
default.xexand thedatafolder. Only one revision works: title ID 4541087F, media ID 6ADB5821, executable version 0.0.0.2; the install guide gives the SHA-256 ofdefault.xex, and the importer rejects anything else. An ISO or archive must be extracted first. We couldn’t confirm which region this revision is. The PS3 version is not supported. We don’t explain how to obtain or copy game data. - Windows 10 or 11 (x64) with a Direct3D 12 graphics card, and Windows PowerShell 5.1, which comes with Windows.
- A controller. The Microsoft Visual C++ x64 runtime may also be needed; the package links to Microsoft’s installer.
How to install
At a high level, from the official README: download the Windows player package from the project’s GitHub Releases page and extract all of it into a writable folder, run Import Game Files.cmd once and point it to your extracted game folder, then start Launch Skate 2.exe. The GitHub “Download ZIP” and source-code archives do not contain the program. Building from source with your own files is covered in the repository’s build guide.
Other Skate 2 projects
- Skate-2-Team/sk82-recomp: an earlier attempt to recompile Skate 2 with XenonRecomp, started in 2025. It never got past an early stage, and its README now says the project is no longer being worked on; the repository is archived.
- Skate2Recompiled by cookingwithsimon: a separate ReXGlue port started on 9 October 2026, which its README says reaches Free Skate with missions working but is early. It has one release, v0.2.0 from 11 October, and very little attention so far; we couldn’t confirm what that download contains, so we don’t link it.
Skate 3 and skate. instead
- Skate 3 Recomp by mchughalex is the Skate 3 equivalent: a ReXGlue port of the Xbox 360 game for Windows, Linux and macOS, with its own Direct3D 12 and Vulkan renderer since version 2.0. Its official repository is mchughalex/skate3recomp.
- Skate 3 in the browser is a separate fan engine that plays Skate 3 from your own converted copy.
- reskate is a fan mod platform for EA’s new free-to-play skate., with offline play and private servers.
Is it official, and is it legal?
- Skate 2 PC is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with EA or its licensors. Its README says Skate 2 and its original content belong to their rights holders, and the project licence does not cover the game, its assets or the generated game code.
- The game’s data comes only from your own copy.
- Get builds only from the official GitHub repository. Legality depends on where you live.
Not working?
- The import is rejected: only the revision above is accepted; select the folder that directly contains
default.xexanddata. - The launcher asks for a runtime: install the Microsoft Visual C++ x64 runtime through the included link.
- Stripes or black surfaces: always start the game through the supplied launchers so the graphics settings apply.
- Low frame rate on a laptop: check the power mode; try
Launch Skate 2 - 1x Performance.cmd.
Otherwise report problems on the project’s GitHub issue tracker, without game files or personal paths in the logs. Another Xbox 360 port: Sonic Unleashed on PC.
FAQ
Is there a Skate 2 PC port?
Not an official one. Skate 2 PC by Christian Ortel is an unofficial native Windows port of the Xbox 360 version, built by static recompilation with the ReXGlue SDK. Version 0.1.1 came out on 12 October 2026. You need files from your own Xbox 360 copy.
Is Skate 2 PC an emulator?
Not for the processor. ReXGlue translates the game's Xbox 360 PowerPC code into C++ that is compiled for Windows. Graphics still go through a compatibility layer taken from the Xenia emulator, which translates Xbox 360 GPU commands to Direct3D 12. You don't need Xenia installed.
Which copy of Skate 2 do I need?
Extracted files (default.xex and the data folder) from the one Xbox 360 revision the port supports, title ID 4541087F, media ID 6ADB5821, executable version 0.0.0.2. The importer checks the file's SHA-256 and rejects other revisions. The PS3 version does not work. We couldn't confirm which region this revision is.
Can you play the Skate 2 career on PC?
Partly confirmed. The README says Free Skate, career progression and instant replay work, and about an hour of career was played without reported glitches on one PC. Finishing the whole career has not been verified.
Does Skate 2 PC run on Linux or Steam Deck?
Not officially. The port is Windows 10/11 x64 with Direct3D 12 only, and the project does not list Linux or Steam Deck support.
What is the difference between Skate 2 PC and Skate 3 Recomp?
They are different games and different teams. Skate 3 Recomp by mchughalex is an older and more developed ReXGlue port of Skate 3 for Windows, Linux and macOS, with its own native renderer since version 2.0. Skate 2 PC is newer, for Windows only, and still uses the Xenia-based graphics layer.
