Chrono Divide is a fan-made remake of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 (2000) that runs in a web browser. It is not an emulator or a port of the original executable: the team rewrote the game engine with web technologies, and it reads the art, sound and maps from the original game’s data files. You import those once, so this page has no play button. The client was up and at version 0.84.1 when we checked on 2026-10-21.
What it is
The project began as an experiment to show that a full RTS could run in a browser. The first public client, v0.1, came out on 31 October 2020, and the team has shipped regular updates since; v0.84.1 followed on 17 October 2026. Its stated goal is feature parity with the original Red Alert 2 engine.
The team behind it does not give personal names on the site; it runs as Chrono Divide with a Discord server, a GitHub organisation (for a mod SDK and a bot API, not the client source) and donation links. We couldn’t confirm who the developers are.
What it can do
- Online multiplayer on its own servers, with no port forwarding, plus quick match, an unranked queue and a public ladder.
- All original multiplayer maps, plus custom maps you add.
- Skirmish against bots and a training match against a dummy.
- Replays and a choice of classic left-click or modern right-click controls.
- Mods: many vanilla Red Alert 2 mods work with no or few changes, installed from inside the client.
- Accounts, so you can carry your profile between devices.
What it does not have yet: the single-player campaigns. The engine code has groundwork for Yuri’s Revenge, but we did not find it playable.
What you need
- The Red Alert 2 data files. The client checks for ra2.mix, language.mix and multi.mix, and its error messages ask for files from the v1.006 patch, from the Origin (EA app) release or XWIS.
- You can select an installed game folder, drop the files in, choose an archive (rar, zip, 7z, tar or a self-extracting exe) or paste an HTTPS link to one. The import screen pre-fills a link to a multiplayer-only package on a third-party site; we do not link it.
- A 64-bit browser: latest Chrome, Edge or Safari. The site advises against Firefox for performance.
- 4 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended) and a 1024x768 screen or larger.
How it works
- Open the game client and accept the disclaimer.
- On Locate original game assets, pick your Red Alert 2 folder or an archive.
- Wait while the files are checked and stored in your browser.
- Log in or create an account to play online, or start a skirmish.
Is it safe and legal?
- It is a non-profit fan project. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 is a trademark of Electronic Arts, which has not endorsed it.
- Unlike the earlier Command & Conquer games and Generals, Red Alert 2 has had no source code release, so the engine is the team’s own work.
- Use files from a copy you own. Red Alert 2 is sold as part of the Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection.
Not working?
- “File appears to be corrupt”: the files are from an old patch or a different release. Use v1.006 files.
- “No browser storage is available”: leave private mode; the imported files are kept in browser storage.
- “Ran out of memory while extracting archive”: use a 64-bit desktop browser, or unpack the archive first and select the folder.
- Choppy in Firefox: switch to Chrome or Edge, as the site recommends.

FAQ
Can you play Red Alert 2 online in a browser?
Yes. Chrono Divide is a fan-made remake of the Red Alert 2 engine that runs in a browser tab and has working online multiplayer, quick match and a ladder. It needs Red Alert 2 data on first run. You can import your own copy or let the site fetch a multiplayer-only package for you, so most players can start without owning the game.
Do I need to own Red Alert 2 to play Chrono Divide?
The client ships no Red Alert 2 art, sound or maps of its own. On first run it asks for the original .mix files, either from an installed copy or from an archive. Its import screen also pre-fills a download of a multiplayer-only package hosted by a third party, so in practice you can play online without your own copy.
Which Red Alert 2 files does Chrono Divide need?
The client checks for ra2.mix, language.mix and multi.mix, and expects them from the latest v1.006 patch. It names the Origin (now EA app) release and XWIS as compatible sources.
Does Chrono Divide have the Red Alert 2 campaign?
Not yet. As of October 2026 it focuses on multiplayer and skirmish against bots; the single-player campaigns are still being worked on. We also saw no way to play Yuri's Revenge yet.
Does Chrono Divide work on a phone?
The official site says phones and tablets are supported. An RTS is still much easier with a mouse, so treat mobile as a bonus.
Is Chrono Divide official?
No. It is a non-profit fan project and its disclaimer says it is not affiliated with Electronic Arts, which owns Command & Conquer.
Unofficial. This page is written by an independent directory. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Electronic Arts (Westwood Studios) or Chrono Divide team (Chrono Divide (Red Alert 2 in the browser)'s author). We do not host any files, and we never link to game files, ROMs or ISOs.
